Here, at one of Europe’s most modern hospitals, specialists in all kinds of different fields work together under one roof. Doctors, nurses and therapists are supported by cutting-edge medical technology, innovative information technology and an architecture that is tailored to the care process. This creates good conditions for close links between top-class medicine, research and teaching. A staff of more than 9,400 works around the clock to ensure the health and wellbeing of the patients. In its 14 departments, the Universitätsklinikum Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) boasts more than 80 clinics, policlinics and institutes which work together on an interdisciplinary basis. It has over 1,346 beds plus a further 196 beds at the University Heart Centre Hamburg and 58 beds at the Martini-Klinik. Every year, the UKE Group treats around 89,000 inpatients and some 275,000 outpatients. In Hamburg and its environs, many treatments are available only here – such as heart, lung, liver, kidney and bone marrow transplants.
